The COBRE Microscopy Core differed from OMRF’s institutional Imaging Core because it focused on specialized cardiovascular imaging to meet the needs of COBRE investigators. In addition, the COBRE Microscopy Core was equipped with the instruments and expertise to image tissues in vitro and in vivo, since these tissues are most relevant to COBRE investigators’ research questions and interests.
The goal of the Microscopy Core was to assist COBRE and external investigators in collecting and analyzing microscopic images test their hypotheses or drive their research in new directions. This enhanced and facilitated publication of their research projects and acquisition of further funding. In addition, the Core provided training to COBRE members and external investigators in microscopy techniques and utilization of Core instruments in order to increase productivity and sustainability of the Core’s expertise.
